We’ve been working with Duke energy for the previous three months to change the way electricity is distributed to our property. We currently have two power poles for overhead lines running to our existing house. Travis the engineer from Duke has worked out a plan for us to eliminate one entirely and move the other one to an out of the way area. From that one pole, we will run underground service to the new house and to our existing house.
The reason this process takes so long is because Duke must secure easements from our neighbors to legally perform the work. We were initially trying to tie into a neighbors existing pole but the negotiations broke down so we abandoned that avenue entirely. We will be receiving a revenue credit from Duke that should cover nearly the entire cost of installation. Our only out of pocket cost will be the cost of conduit and trenching to bury the leg to the existing house.
